High Impact Polystyrene, also known as HIPS, is a low cost and versatile plastic material that is easy to machine and fabricate. HIPS is often specified for low strength structural applications when impact resistance, machine ability, and low cost is required. It is frequently used when machining pre production prototypes since it has excellent dimensional stability and is easy to fabricate paint and glue.
HIPS or High Impact Polystyrene sheet is obtained by blending standard styrene with impact-improving additives. Due to the combination of versatility, easy processing and good value polystyrene is one of the largest volume thermoforming plastics. The surface allows for good ink adhesion with the end product rich in looking, durable and functional. It is available in opaque white and black sheet and is most often used in applications of temporary or disposable nature.
Sheet sizes are 1370mm x 760mm, except for the 3.0mm sheet which is 2440mm x 1220mm. Cut to size is also available upon request.
